Okular is not ready for everyday usage. It may be a good pdf viewer, but
it is very slow in loading dvi files. Not having kdvi in ubuntu breaks
the workflow of latex users. I don't expect okular to have enough
manpower to get close to kdvi in the near future, therefore kdvi should
be put back.

If you are a developer, reading this, and are considering ignoring this
comment, please be honest first: do you work in latex every day? If not,
please ask for the opinion of some latex users if you know them, then
decide if this issue should be ignored or not. Really, working with
kile+okular using dvi is not possible for me; using pdf makes okular
faster. But then I loose forward and backward search (w.r.t. kdvi). In
that case, I would prefer using evince. Of course installing kile from
intrepid is an option but I distaste having to teach users who ask my
advice how to do this procedure.
