Public bug reported:

I just upgraded my kubuntu jaunty to kde 4.2.3.
The kickoff applications menu is now completely empty.
The other menues - favorites, computer, recently used and leave look fine.
Also the file associations seem to have disappeared. When I click on an 
openoffice spreadsheet the system now asks to specify the application.

I have no idea to which package this problem may be connected.
