Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-base

Using the expand slide macro in the Insert Menu causes a complete shutdown of
OO.o. I expected it to make a new set of slides that used the main header of
the content block as their main header and the 1st subheaders as the main
headers of their own slides. This is how it has happened in previous times
when I used the feature (in other OS and with earlier versions of OO.o.
All files open are reverted to their last saved version, whether or not it
appears that OO.o is going to save the current condition. I am using Jaunty
and OO.o 3.0.1 (build 9379). I don't know how to get a good valgrind report on
this.

an alternate process that is the actual presentation software.
