Public bug reported: it is a general problem and has reported here in several , special bugs, but I think, the problem occurs to all this situations when you using some gnome apps, firefox, openoffice:
as root over ssh with x-forwarding over vnc with xnest or in my situation to use LINUX as a multi-user-system, also work on the same machine with several users, the main user has not a problem, but all other get this error: GConf error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash So, a lot of this errors are find at Google, and I think, it was a problem with gconf and dbus (perhaps). This error is during like the update from hardy to intrepid and now Jaunty. And it is a bad bug, really, you make Linux to a single-user-system ! I tried a lot of workarounds, but nothing works good. So, I can't remove gconf, to much programs will then remove( over 150) but also with gconf no firefox and no openoffice will work. a really bad situation ! best regards Juergen ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gconf error configuration server at several users https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/374025 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
