Hi Ben…

Does the 'garbage' disappear after a while? If so - how long?
⋯The garbage will disappear if you move a window over them.

And also - is this with all applications or just opera?
⋯generally with all windows, but may not happen.

And finally - Do you have desktop effects enabled?
⋯I have a dual monitor setup running separate x screens. There are many
problems with Gnome 2.26.0 on the second screen. I also run compiz only on
display :0.0. (compiz --display :0.0 --only-current-screen --replace &) Also
from time to time compiz will stop compositing requiring a restart. Running it
on :0.1 has proved to be impossible probably because of Gnome 2.26 problems.
All these problems did not occur in Ububtu 8.10 and Gnome 2.22 amd64.

I run an nvidia 8800 GTX to two monitors, 2560x1600 & 1440x900, nvidia
driver is 180.44, X.org 1.6.0, attached is xorg.conf

:~$ apt-cache policy compiz
compiz:
  Installed: 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8
  Candidate: 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8
  Version table:
 *** 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8 0
        500 cdrom://Ubuntu 9.04 _Jaunty Jackalope_ - Release amd64 (20090420.1)
jaunty/main Packages
        500 http://mirrors.us.kernel.org jaunty/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Not a problem to lend a hand in resolving this minor problem, seems as
if there are some major ones going without attention.
