I confirm this bug. Pidgin users have trouble seeing áàãõ....
xchat and irssi have no such problem.

** Summary changed:

- pidgin sets wrong encoding, and doenst see xchat encoding
+ Pidgin default encoding should be Latin/Unicode Hybrid

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: xchat
+ Binary package hint: pidgin

- For LANG=pt_PT.UTF-8 xchat sets IRC (Latin/Unicode Hybrid) encoding
- instead of UTF-8, making IRC on freenode very ba for other users
+ Pidgin default encoding for IRC is UTF-8. It should be using CP1252 with
+ UTF-8 auto-detection like xchat.
