** Description changed:

  Hey there,

I just bought a Dell desktop computer. The first thing I did was to
  install Ubuntu.

I haven't had much luck so far. The system is randomly freezing after some
time.
The wierd thing is I can still move the mouse over the screen but I can't
click.
I'm not able to show the desktop, minimize or close any window.

The only thing I can do is hit ctrl+alt+f1 and kill GDM and restart it.

  I'm so frustrated with this.

Please feel free to ask me anything you might be needing to resolve
  this.

  Facts:

  - This happens weather or not I'm using Compiz.
- - If I restart my computer and boot Windows Vista right after that incident,
I have a very similar problem under vista (being able to move the mouse, but
unable to click). Now if I shut down my computer, wait a couple of seconds, and
then boot Vista, this won't happen.
  - Same problem under Jaunty KDE4, tested with a bootable usb stick.
  - I've got an ext4 filesystem.
+
+ Update: I've just had the same problem under Vista. Seems to be a
+ hardware issue.
