sure john...youre right...i dont think these bug-report are asking for
help though.

it seems that deleting the .bin files has helped everybody.

i think people are just trying to express that an install cd with
dysfunctional apt is quite a showstopper - how is the user supposed to
upgrade apt?

for now - the user who has installed herd 1 should delete the .bin
files. problem solved.
