Its possible that the upgrade to Feisty caused the installed css to no longer function and produce the problem. Then when you reinstalled the package from Edgy (Which contains the CSS installer) everything would once again be ok.
That said, the install-css.sh file really needs to be included in libdvdread3 within Feisty, particularly if it does break when upgrading from a previous version.
