I found another way to reproduce this bug: Open the attached .pdf file, and *try* to zoom into 300% (I use kdpf, but I guess it can be any program).
When going over 200%, the mouse starts lagging, zooming further stops xmms from playing music, and the system becomes completely unresponsive. This happens with any kind of file or any operation that is CPU intensive. So it seems to me, as a process priority issue maybe...
