Positive update :-) Yes I had recreated the swap device since the earlier failure had stopped it from working at all as in the other bug threads.
I tried hibernating the AJP M3000N the other day and it now works. Not always, but most of the time. Some combination of updated kernels, updated other bits and pieces and whatever, means it has actually worked correctly.
