I suffer the same problem with my PC. It is caused by the Ubuntu insistence in using 'pulseaudio' in the new releases. I patched up my PC by removing 'pulseaudio' and installing 'esound' in its place. Now the Audio works and I can use Skype. The problem is that, with any new update, Ubuntu reinstalls 'pulseaudio' and I am obliged to repeat the procedure. You can find how to do it via Google or ask me for more details. Gaetano Arena
