Public bug reported: Binary package hint: alacarte
If you delete unused applications using alacarte (i.e., those without a checkmark in them) nautilus will no longer automatically open your home folders, or any folders under 'Places'. If you reboot the computer, a completely unusable desktop will appear (ie., nothing but some wallpaper). To fix, simply switch to another terminal and remove the users .local directory. After rebooting again, everything works fine with the exception that all the users menu customizations have been lost. I am unsure if it is necessary to remove some or all of the unused applications, so to test please delete all unused applications under the menu editor, even (especially?) those under 'Other'. As a guess, I would think if you simply removed all the file manager options the problem may re-occur. I have not tried all options as of yet. I am using Ubuntu Jauntu. ** Affects: alacarte (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Removing unused applications via alacarte results in unusable desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378422 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
