i had my microsoft vx-1000 lifecam workin in ubuntu 8.10 using this
method

worked in 8.10 however when i did a fresh install of 9.04 and applied
the same instructions it loads ok but when i tested with cheese and
checked the output in the terminal i get

libv4lconvert: Error decompressing JPEG: fill_nbits error: need 2 more bits

libv4lconvert: Error decompressing JPEG: fill_nbits error: need 1 more bits
