I can confirm this on my Thinkpad T61 with nVidia Quadro NVS 140M graphic card, running Ubuntu 9.04 x86 with Compiz and no 'AccellMethod' in xorg.conf. I experienced random crashes of the X server. I have gdm[3660]: WARNING: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0 in my /var/log/syslog. I installed the latest driver from nvidia and my problems are gone!
