Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debian-installer

Using the Karmic Alpha 1 alternate 386 cd to make a persistent installation on
a USB stick I noticed that
the swap partition of my internal hdd automatically gets selected in manual
partitioning.
When selecting not to use it and proceeding the installer wants to write
changes to that hdd (?mbr).

A way around is to deselect the swap partition, leave manual
partitioning, enter it again - this time the swap isn't selected and you
can proceed making changes to only the USB drive (without making changes
to the hdd).

Also after the installation the default drive for the bootloader should
in this case be the USB stick, not the first hdd.

** Affects: debian-installer (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
