Public bug reported: Right i have just upgraded to 9.04 20th May.
Things have been a little unstable and slow compared to 8.10 when i enabled my propriety ATI driver for my 2660 HD pro card. Then my sound broke a day or so after. This was not acceptable so I tried to fix it thinking the user was at fault but with no success. So i initially had sound working over HDMI after the base install ** with a pulse audio tweak see end of message. This was not very good until pulse audio seems to adjust itself. Then the sound stopped working today 22 May, I was not sure why. Even after first enabling the propriety driver i experienced problems using the native display control tool to change settings for the LCD i am using. It would hang and not load just sitting there or even crash the machine. Trying to get VLC to go full screen after setting the video screen to crop 16:10 and deintelace Bob the screen would blank and them nothing. There seemed to be a long delay from login to getting a working desktop with the screen flashing and elements appearing and disappearing. Eventually the system comes up and was semi stable. After the audio stopped working i reinstalled the whole system from scratch getting updates from the internet during install and immediatly after first boot. The audio again did not work after a fresh install. After a few hours of work I downloaded the Latest ATI release of the proprietry driver. This seems to have solved a lot of the issues i was experiencing with the ubuntu driver version. Sound now works, startup is smoother, faster and the display panel works nicely as expected. VLC is untested yet but i don't want to loose this report. The AtI version I downloaded from the site was 9-5 and contains version of the drivers 8.61.2 & OpenGL 2.1.8664 As a side note to get sound working on this graphics card i have to make these changes see: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1009407 Description: Ubuntu 9.04 Release: 9.04 ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx Package: xorg-driver-fglrx 2:8.600-0ubuntu2 [modified: usr/lib/libatiadlxx.so usr/lib/libfglrx_dm.so.1.0 usr/lib/libfglrx_gamma.so.1.0 usr/lib/libfglrx_pp.so.1.0 usr/lib/libfglrx_tvout.so.1.0 usr/lib/libXvBAW.so.1.0 usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 usr/lib/dri/fglrx_dri.so usr/lib/xorg/modules/amdxmm.so usr/lib/xorg/modules/glesx.so usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/fglrx_drv.so usr/lib/xorg/modules/linux/libfglrxdrm.so usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libdri.so usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so usr/lib/libaticalcl.so usr/lib/libaticaldd.so usr/lib/libaticalrt.so usr/sbin/amdnotifyui usr/sbin/atieventsd usr/bin/aticonfig usr/bin/atiodcli usr/bin/atiode usr/bin/fgl_glxgears usr/bin/fglrx_xgamma usr/bin/fglrxinfo] ProcEnviron: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersion: Linux version 2.6.28-11-generic (bui...@palmer) (gcc version 4.3.3 (Ubuntu 4.3.3-5ubuntu4) ) #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009 SourcePackage: fglrx-installer Uname: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic i686 ** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 -- ATI 2600 HD Pro PCIe- Broken Sound over HDMI, delayed startup, delays with OSD (vol + compiz), unabled to access Display settings, Crashes in VLC fullscreen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/379603 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
