I had what appeared to be a similar problem. I have a dual-head G450 PCI card.
In my case, X was crashing and failsafe X was unable to start due to some problem with the VESA driver, leaving the video card in a screwed- up state so it no longer displayed anything. I was able to switch between virtual consoles (although I couldn't see anything on the screen, I could tell it was switching because numlock changed), and run commands on the virtual console. In my case, it turns out the problem was due to some InputDevice devices in xorg.conf for a wacom tablet which is not plugged in. Removing the unnecessary devices fixed the problem, so it was probably not related to mga at all. -- [Jaunty] Matrox G550 dual-screen blank screen: possible X crash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/369821 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
