Thank you for these directions. I too lost sound under Jaunty on my 1420n. First I reversed a change that I had made to
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf when I lost sound in upgrading from Gutsy to Hardy. At that point, I had added the line options snd-hda-intel model=auto to the alsa-base.conf file. That seemed like an "snd-hda-intel model quirk" so following the post above I removed it. I then made the lanai-sound changes above and rebooted. Sound works great.
