Public bug reported: Today's example-content directory (/usr/share/example-content) has many files in it which have very unfriendly looking names. Words are separated with the "_" character and the "logos" folder is in all lower case.
This is entirely unnecessary, because the file system we use has always (as far as I can remember...) supported spaces and, for that matter, just about any other character in file names. It would be way friendlier looking if the files here were named in friendly, nontechnical ways such as "Ubuntu Free Culture Showcase" (As opposed to Ubuntu_Free_Culture_Showcase), "Kubuntu leaflet.jpg" as opposed to "Kubuntu_leaflet.jpg," and "About Ubuntu (Russian).rtf" as opposed to "About_Ubuntu_[Russian].rtf". (Even the file extensions are pretty pointless, but I'll let that pass as a necessary step for portability and given that determining MIME types isn't exactly foolproof). While I understand the avoidance of complex file names for most software projects, I don't think there is a reason not to have friendly ones for example-content, at least to show users how awesomely forgiving the file system is :) ** Affects: example-content (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: enhancement -- FIle names in /usr/share/examples could be friendlier https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/381330 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
