Yesterday I downloaded Ubuntu 9.04 and burned the iso file. The CD won't boot at all on my PC. After trying some boot options and finally disabling lapic (nolapic) the cd booted at last and complaining that something was wrong with the BIOS. This was an useful hint. So I updated my mainboard BIOS and problem solved. I don't have any idea, why the old Ubuntu versions (e.g. 8.04) didn't have any problem at all with my old mainboard BIOS, but the newer did. Just a little info aside: my CPU is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ on MSI K9N SLI-2F mainboard. The chipset is nForce 570 SLI. Just in case, that someone wants to analyse this problem.
