Desktop effects are not enabled, and I'm using the standard xorg driver. After re-seating of the graphics card text is normal again. However there are still some minor defects. For example when scrolling with the mouse wheel, the scrollbar arrows disappear until I hover over the scrollbars. There are also defects around text input fields.
