Public bug reported: I tried to upgrade from a fresh install of Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 to Hardy Heron 8.04, but it failed during the update.
I have a feeling this is a depository problem as my other machine has been running Gutsy for nearly a year now (personal preference, better game support through Wine) and has recently encountered the equivelent of 404 errors when doing apt-get updates. I've included the /var/log/dist-upgrade files as suggested by the update-manager. The actual reported error is as follows: During the 'Setting New Software Channels' procedure,, right near the end during 'Calculating the changes' it reports: "Can't install 'xubuntu-desktop' It was impossible to install a required package. Please report this as a bug." Then, upon closing this dialogue box, it states: "Could not calculate the upgrade A unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade. This can be caused by: * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bugreport." So, please find those files attached. The version of update-manager i'm using is: Installed: 1:0.81 Candidate: 1:0.81 Version table: *** 1:0.81 0 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Failed to install xubuntu-desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/383315 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
