I am unable to install automatic updates which appear in the update
manager, I get an error:

I tried installing vlc player via terminal and received an error:
package liba52-0.7.4 None [modified:
/var/lib/dpkg/info/liba52-0.7.4.list] failed to install/upgrade: files
list file for package `libxcb-shape0' is missing final newline
trying to add or remove programs using the add/remove program option
also give an error related to:
`libxcb-shape0' is missing final newline
I am using a new Dell Inspiron Min 10v with ubuntu 8.04
I have tried sudo apt-get clean & sudo apt-get update, same issue.
