which version were you using in debian? that's totally a corruption between version and locales, you might want to delete your evolution folder (~/.evolution) and start with a blank profile, i don't think there's code to manage such issues. Backup your profile and try deleting your profile, or send this upstream at bugzilla.gnome.org where the upstream authors can read about it and maybe find a solution for that.
