Switching to liferea 1.6.0 from https://launchpad.net/~liferea/+archive/ppa solved hang issues for me on Ubuntu 9.04 (2.6.29 kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/) and ext4.
