Did you use the 0ubuntu0sarvatt that I compiled or the one from the PPA? I'm asking because I want to be sure it is the patch and not anything else that accounts from the bad behaviour. To get a better idea about what is going wrong, you can start ubuntu without the splash screen by pressing Esc to get the Grub boot menu on startup, e to edit the command line for the default menu item and then remove the options splash and quit from the parameters.
