So it seems that this is "not a priority" although many people confirm that sounds simply DO NOT WORK. Again, this is not a matter of sounds not being set by default in shipped version of Ubuntu. Rather, this is a matter of sounds not being played when their respective events are triggered... or in simple terms: Most of the sound events simply don't work.
