(1) What was you running when you got the install error? 'dpkg', or
'update-manager', or 'synaptic', or something like it?
What exact version were you installing? If in doubt, please paste in
here the full '.deb' file name.
There should be a /var/log/apt/term.log showing the install process. Can
you attach it here?
I cannot reproduce this issue with current coreutils on Karmic.
