So wait.....the package manager does not install the requested data, it
crashes with an error, and it is not a bug?

It looks like a bug, it acts like a bug.....I think this is a bug.

Having things crash when people attempt to install something is bad.

Also, when I followed the instructions given here, this was the result:

p...@ubuntu-desktop:~$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure sun-java6-doc
/usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure: sun-java6-doc is broken or not fully installed

After manually going to the Sun web site and downloading the file and
manually putting it in the /tmp directory and changing the permissions
and having the instructions here fail I installed something I did not
need with Synaptic and it was able to install the Java6-Doc package.

As long as this crashes in the faces of users you will continue to get
bug reports on this, of that much I am sure.
