Same for me. Vaio VGN-S560P. Fn keys work now since Bug #39820 seems to be resolved after some communication with the maintainer of smartdimmer (eventhough bug was not marked as resolved).
But the display is neither dimmed by the gnome-power-manager nor by kpowersave which I installed later. As mentioned in Bug #29527 there is no indicator for brightness keystrokes like for the volume keys.
