Same problem for me on a Dell GX270 with DVD RW drive (NEC Optiarc ND- 3570A). The above work-around did not work for me. I'm trying to install 8.10 from the alternate disk.
I cannot use the desktop installer because I want to configure LVM inside LUKS. I am attempting to test a reinstall of 9.04 in an LUKS-LVM system. Here is the error I got after continuing after applying the workaround mentioned above: [!!] Install the base system Base system installation error The debootstrap program exited with an error (return value 1).
