I can say pretty certainly this is not about the module. It has more to do with the version of network-manager and even more with the tool you use for controlling it. I use plasma-widget-network-manager: 0.0+svn966653-0ubuntu0.1 with succes. Also the gnome nm-applet seems to do the trick. If you can give more information on which version of what program your using this would help allot.
