This looks really like either a duplicate of 252900 or a case of using a
/boot filesystem that does not support links (vfat, ntfs). If this is
not a wubi installation, make sure /boot is ext3 formatted. If you
provide the output of "df -h" and "cat /proc/mounts" this would be
clearer.
