Success! Here is the update log. I won't report these as bugs unless advised to do so, but I think Launchpad could have been more helpful:
1. Incorrect message "Cannot upload empty file". The file was not empty. Launchpad error, I think. 2. I had to start Firefox with gksudo to upload the log file.
