I can confirm that the fix for the tearing issue is to add the following
to Xorg.conf
Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
EndSection
Kernel upgrade and fixmtrr did nothing to resolve the issue, only adding
the accelmethod uxa did the trick. Happy mailing!
