This seems like a simple problem to fix. I do not wish to take our
volunteer developers for granted, but I don't understand why this
problem has not been fixed yet in the form of an Ubuntu Update that
prompts me. Isn't it as simple as repairing one line of code, and
recompiling?

I don't understand why there is talk on this thread of the following:

1. "backporting"
2. "Updating to new versions that exist outside the main repository"
3. "editing the host file"

These suggestions are nice for temporary fixes, but I guess I don't
understand the complexity of releasing an official update that will
prompt everyone automatically via update manager.
