I am running Karmic alpha 2, applied the updates offered to me, chose the defaults everywhere, and ended up with a nonbootable system. It took a while to figure out to remove the --no-floppy argument.
I didn't chain-load, as far as I know. The debconf prompt made no sense to me, it offered no useful choices other than 'continue'.
