Maybe it's not firefox but a gnome bug? I can make the following addition: evolution has troulbes to connect to a imap mailbox, but from a terminal a telnet to the imap box works. The specific sites - i'm not able to analyse them - like imap could use specific ports which are getting stopped somewhere within gnome. the bash itself and a virtualbox instance can go to this ports, but gnome apps (evolution, firefox) not.
How good is my suggestion? and how can I prove that?
