I have now upgraded this system to jaunty from intrepid while running the hardy kernel.
I confirm that the kernel included with intrepid (Linux soekris 2.6.28-13-generic #45-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 30 19:49:51 UTC 2009 i586) works with the sc1200 disk controller. So: fixed in jaunty.
