Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs
In the main page about scanning : https://help.ubuntu.com/9.04/printing/C/scanning.html There is no precision about how to manage a multifunction scanner. They are well detected by system, but only accessible by root, because, printer device part is owned by lp group but scanner device part has root group. Lot of people reported about this, there are text entries to add to udev file. This file is not here by default in ubuntu-9.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-backends/+bug/72506 In my case, another printer I have to add another line.
