elaborating a bit: - the hotkey is still exposed to userspace, both via the thinkpad input device and as an acpi event. However, even shutting down gnome-settings-daemon and acpi-support, the hotkey still has the described effect - so something appears to be handling this in the kernel. - as mentioned in bug #397698, I can't find a way to change the rfkill setting from userspace /anyway/.
