I like the two-status concept of Refresh-Stop and I place this icon-button between Backward and Forward icons. If I don't want go back or go forward, I could make just like "a little jump" (refresh) where I am now.
The users-blog-experience gives some hints (think about the breadcrumb). Why don't assume the widget idea too for left-area?
