I confirm the boot problems. I've the same sort of problems with a brand new laptop after installation of Ubuntu 9.04. The DRDY errors not only occur when booting from hard disk. They also occur, when booting the Ubuntu 9.04 life CD. However, the boot process does not get stuck here. After 27 seconds, the system boots normally.
When booting from hard disk: - The workaround "insert a CD" works. - The workaround "leave CD tray open" does not work for me.
