For anyone who comes across this bug and is looking for a workaround,
I'm posting the following two addresses that were useful to me.

http://www.bg-interface.net/view.php?id=418 (web page)
http://www.bg-interface.net/downloads.php?id=418 (zip-ped xpi download)

The 'Linux xpi' link at the first site worked out of the box. For some
reason though after installing it I've noticed in several dialogs
"Firefox" being substituted with "Grand Paradiso". I haven't noticed any
other discrepancies since I was felt like missing the "firefox" word too
much and uninstalled the whole package.

The language pack at the second site is set to work with firefox up to 3.0.9
and took some tweaking. Here are the steps I took:
* obtain the zip archive from the site and extract the xpi from it
* open the xpi (double click opens it in File Roller) and extract the
install.rdf file
* open the install.rdf file with a text editor and change the 'maxVersion' to
3.0.12
* save and close the file
* re-add the edited file to the xpi archive (simple drag&drop to the File
Roller window)
* close File Roller, drag-n-drop the xpi file to a Firefox window
* confirm the installation and restart Firefox

This is probably not the nicest way of doing it, but it pretty much did
the trick for me :)
