Harald asked: "different workgroup names?" My only change from a default samba install is adding the log level line. smb.conf says workgroup is MSHOME. On the Windows side I just tracked it down and it is called "WORKGROUP". I've just changed the workgroup to WORKGROUP in smb.conf, restarted samba, rebooted windows, and... the panic email still arrives. Oh well, it was worth a try :-).
