Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Source: kdebase-workspace
Version: 4:4.2.2-0ubuntu2
I'm running OO 3.1.0 with an AMD 64 dual core processor 5200.
When saving large spreadsheet files (2MB) in MS xls format OO Calc grinds away,
ceases up and I have to kill the process using System Monitor or restart the
computer physically.
Even when saving the same file in OO ods format (1MB) it takes two or three
goes before it is finally saved.
I never had this problem with previous versions of Open Office.
- Cheers, David.
