Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs
The documentation in the gnome-app-install package appears to have been last updated in 2006. (06/29/2006: V 1.2) We already ship decent documentation about installing packages with the ubuntu-docs package in add-applications.xml. That is more complete, because it explains more subjects: # 1. How is software installation on Ubuntu different from on Windows? # 2. Installing an application # 3. Removing an application # 4. Adding a software repository # 5. Installing software packages without an Internet connection # 6. What is restricted and non-free software? # 7. Overview of the default Ubuntu software repositories It is also significantly better translated. I think it would be helpful to merge the native gnome-app-install document into the ubuntu-docs package so that the help button in the gnome-app-install application can then point at this (similar to the way that other native Ubuntu packages like jockey do their desktop help). I don't think there is much to do actually, perhaps the one topic that isn't already covered by add- applications.xml is how to search for applications. I think a help button could also be added to software-sources which points at this document too. I'd like to hear what the gnome-app-install maintainers think of this idea. ** Affects: gnome-app-install (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: gnome-app-install (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- merge gnome-app-install documentation with add-applications.xml https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410642 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
