** Summary changed:

- Pidgin duplicates contacts in jabber/xmpp
+ [9.04] Pidgin in XMPP can not establish authentication for buddies. Also
duplicates contacts in jabber/xmpp

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: pidgin
+ For protocol XMPP (so - gtalk / jabber)
+
+ updated: This bug also makes it hard to get it so both both sides see
+ each-others online status! The authorization does not work. Often you
+ will see online buddy as offline (or viceversa)!
+
+ This makes is much harder to use this IM.
+ Since this is most popular client for mots popular open source / "free" IM,
then I think we should really consider SRU to fix it for 9.04 (and 8.10?) users.

If you add a new buddy on xmpp/jabber networks and authorize the other's
request of adding you, you will get a duplication of this buddy in your
list. Deleting one of them causes duplication at the other side after
rerequest authorization. Easiest way to solve this, is to edit blist.xml
manually. This is a very annoying bug for everybody who uses xmpp/jabber
  with pidgin...

There are at least two bug reports at pidgin.im who have milestone 2.2.0
  but are not yet fixed:
