Thanks for reporting this bug in the ATI KMS PPA. We normally like to
focus one bug report per issue, and since I think the performance issues
are known upstream I'm going to focus this one on the screen corruption
problem. (You're welcome to file another bug on the performance issue
if you'd like to help us track that one to a solution.)
